Coventry United Assistant Manager Luke Morton talks to CUTV's Liam Cook ahead of the MFL Premier Division tie at home to Haughmond
Liam - A win at last weekend at Shepshed. It must have been a real monkey off the backs of both players and management to get that long awaited victory?
Luke – It was nice to finally get the win under our belts, as it's been a long time coming. The lads have been working really hard in training and it's great to see their hard work finally pay off.
Liam - Now the first win is in the bag, how can you gain a second at home to Haughmond?
Luke – It will be another difficult game, but if we play to our potential then we are fully capable of gaining another 3 points. However, I am sure Haughmond will be thinking exactly the same.
Liam - We’ve seen photos of the Butts Park Arena pitch over recent weeks. It will certainly prove to be a challenge to both sides. But given the success on a difficult surface at Shepshed, will there be many changes to the game plan?
Luke – Everyone knows the pitch is not in great condition, but we have to deal with it and that's what we'll do. The game plan is to go and gain 3 points and the condition of the pitch won’t change that.
Liam - Shaquille McDonald scored both goals at Shepshed. He seems to be a real find?
Luke - Shaq is settling in nicely and his goals show that. Both we and he still think there is alot more to come. The lads have made him feel very welcome and he gets on great with them all.
Liam - The defence has been a target of criticism from fans during that winless run. Although the backline rode their luck at times, they performed admirably on a tough surface. What’s changed in terms of defensive approach?
Luke - The defence certainly hasn't been under criticism from the management team. We win, lose and draw as a team. They were solid last week and although Shepshed put a bit of pressure on us, they never really created any clear cut chances.
Liam - And finally, what did the support of the Red and Green Army mean to the players and management during a very difficult spell of games?
Luke - The support as always is huge for us. Even through our winless run they stuck with us and we really appreciate it. We hope now we can repay that loyalty by going on a winning run and start climbing the table.
