Influx of New Players!

Date: 13 October 2017 at 13:23 by Liam Cook

Coventry United Football Club is pleased to confirm 3 new additions to our playing staff.

This week there have been persistent rumours regarding the future of one local player. The Red and Greens were said to be the likely destination of a highly rated young goalkeeper from Coventry Sphinx. We are happy to announce these rumours are true, and Scott Dutton has signed on the dotted line. He will be available for selection immediately, and we hope to bring you reactions to his signature during our post match interviews on Saturday. Scott has been Number 1 Goalkeeper at Sphinx since his arrival in 2014. Earlier this week it was confirmed the ex Wolves and Crawley keeper would be leaving Sphinx Drive. Many clubs tried in vain to secure Scott's services, but it's the red side of Coventry he will be representing from now on.

Experienced left-back Tom James has also joined the Red and Greens. Known as TJ to his friends and teammates, the 28 year old made his Coventry United debut against Rugby Town last weekend, and will add depth and experience to a highly talented back line. While speaking to Coventry United TV, TJ confirmed he had been talking with United boss Terry Anderson about joining the club for some time, and although he is still to regain full fitness, he is confident of claiming the number 3 jersey for his own. James is arguably best known for his 3 stints at Leamington, although he also spent time with Watford and Nuneaton Town among others.

Carl O'Neil completes the trio of new arrivals. Like Dutton, O'Neil also spent time with Coventry Sphinx, and has already impressed during his 2 opening matches for the Red and Greens, keeping clean sheets in the Polymac Packaging League Cup victories at Shepshed Dynamo and Leicester Road. With Dutton, O'Neil, Rich Morris, James Behan and Ash Malhorta all gunning for the Number 1 shirt, Coventry United have without a doubt the best collection of goalkeepers in the league
