Coventry United Ladies are out of the SSE Womens’ FA Cup.
The Red and Green Girls suffered a 2-1 defeat against FAWNL Division 1 South East leaders Crawley Wasps at Communications Park, with an added time goal directly from a corner cementing a shock befitting of the prestigious competition. United took a first half lead through Amber Hughes’ low finish in the box, but less than a minute later it was all square again, as Ariana Flieschman fired past Sue Wood in the home goal. A United side, void of their usual intensity and precise passing, controlled possession in the second half, but failed to find a way past Frankie Gibbs between the sticks. Tash Merritt came closest to finding a second, hitting the underside of the bar. But the curling injury time corner bounced in off the far post to send the Wasps through to Round 4.
